What our readers are saying about Final Bearing

A reader from Rancho Santa Fe, California United States:

Action packed !

Loved the details of submarine life and also work done by the Seals. You could see and smell the submarine in this book. I would love to hear more about submarines and what the U.S. is doing with it's current fleet of boats.

I don't think I have ever read a book that includes so many different aspects of intrigue and action taking place around the world.

Hope this duo writes another.

A reader from Orange, New Jersey USA:

High expectations met

I don't usually take the time to write about the books I read for pleasure, but this one got to me in a unique way. I really felt I was there, every step of the way on an adventure that surprised and thrilled me. The authors succeeded in hooking me in from the very first, then keeping my attention for the entire book, quite an accomplishment because I'm a very demanding reader of fiction.

Congrats to Messers. Wallace and Keith, and I hope they write more together.

A reader from Hesperus, CO USA:

Tom Clancy Lookout!!

This book combines all the ingredients for the perfect page turner. Suspense, great plot and all the submarine details one could want.

Wallace and Keith are a great team! Bring on the next one.

A college English professor:

Move over, Clancy and Coonts!

I got a copy of the uncorrected proof from a friend at a local newspaper to consider doing a review and I have to say, if I get time to write the review, it will be a glowing one. The authors have done a wonderful job of moving the action along and not getting too bogged down in hardware details. I feel as if I have now been aboard a nuclear sub after the way the authors describe life aboard the USS Spadefish. The big thing--these things could actually happen. It is not so farfetched like so many in the genre tend to be. I heartily recommend...and now, I think I will write that review for the paper!

Robert Vaughan:

Final Bearing, a Blockbuster

Excitement from page one. The action sequences are riviting, the submarine scenes ring with authenticity. This book is good for your cardio-vascular systems . . . it gets your heartrate up without you ever leaving your chair. But be warned, make no plans after you pick the book up, because you won't be able to put it down until it is read.

All The Action One Book Can Handle,

Final Bearing, by George Wallace and Don Keith, truly is a rip-snorter! The authors packed a lot of exciting action into every page. Combining submarines and other craft with spies, drugs, and jungle warfare was a potent formula mixed up with a great air of authenticity. I hope it sells well, and I can hardly wait for the movie. But the book jacket needs a government warning: "Do not read this book if you have heart trouble!" Frank S. Virden, Captain, USN (Ret.)

Well worth the read

Wallace and Keith spin a dandy tale of submarines, Navy SEALs and cocaine, with a Chinese connection. This genre clearly hasn't been exhausted. The action moves along briskly, accompanied by lush descriptions of the Columbian interior and keen insights into life aboard an aging sub whose crew is determined to finish one last mission, as can be told only by one who's been there. A great first book by this team--can't wait to see the next one!

Believable plot...great action...good read

Seems like so many technothrillers are so farfetched that they are almost ridiculous. FINAL BEARING has all the elements of suspense, action, and military hardware, but the authors do a good job of convincing us this is real stuff. They put the reader in the middle of the action and describe the technology in a believable way without trying to tell us how to build a submarine from scratch! On the negative side, there are so many story lines and characters, the reader could lose his place if he puts the book aside for a few days, but the plot and action are good enough to keep that from happening, I think. By the way, the descriptions of the HALO jump and the run up Puget Sound by Spadefish are absolutely gripping

A reader from Canton, Ohio United States

This is a good read. The plot continues through several characters to culminate into the final riviting scenes. There is enough technical information to keep the interest of those who truly understand those elements, but that same information does not interfere with the enjoyment of the story for those less technically knowledgeable. In fact, I learned a great deal of the atmosphere surrounding the lives of our brave military personel by reading this book.

The story deals with the good/evil struggles of our lives here on this planet through the actions of our military and the underbelly of society from which they protect us. I do recommend this book.

A former Spadefish sailor

Just finished the book. I REALLY liked it. Great Job!

Its amazing how you bring the day to day life aboard a submarine to life in your book. It really brought back memories of my time aboard the Spadefish. This included both good and bad memories.

....You really tied a bunch of individual stories into one exciting story on a grander scale and made it all fit together for a nice conclusion. Especially liked it when the Spadefish used a 48 to blow up the freighter. Finally, you really exposed all of the capabilities of a submarine from OTH to torpedoes to littoral maneuvering.

Thanks for an outstanding story,

Just finished it! It was awesome, very realistic and spellbinding.

A submariner from the 50's

Well Done on this one.

Got my personal copy of "Final Bearing" Friday and couldn't put it down...a truly GREAT read! Mr Clancy has some competition! In any case, I wish you continued success in your new career with fair winds and following seas well into the future.
